KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Perform the duties of a Medical Assistant in a primary care setting with assistance from volunteer nurses when available.
- Work with Spanish speaking patients -translating during clinic and taking phone messages.
- Assist the clinical Director and Medical Providers in any way to help make the clinic run smoothly.
SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE The clinic medical assistant job is to help make the medical operations run smoothly. This involves working daily with the Medical providers and Clinical Director, performing various clinic and lab tests as needed and being proficient with electronic medical records. The job also includes working directly with the Spanish speaking patients to include direct translation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Prepare patients for exams, take vital signs
- Take patient medical history
- Perform simple office lab tests (i.e. urine dipsticks, pregnancy tests, glucose tests, etc.)
- Draw periodic lab tests and complete requisitions for ordered tests
- Prepare and organize exam rooms by cleaning, stocking and assisting in ordering supplies
- Perform various office procedures (i.e. EKG, Spirometry, injections, suture removal, etc.)
- Clean and autoclave medical instruments
- Assist physicians with entering patient data and orders in the computer
- Answering Spanish speaking patient phone calls
- Notify Spanish speaking patients of lab or test results
- Following protocols to refill prescriptions

WORK EVNIRONMENT Employee will be exposed to virus, disease and infection from patients and specimens in working environment. Employee may experience traumatic situations.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
The position requires intermittent physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping and crouching as well as lifting and supporting patients.
POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Fridays, 8:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. Evening and weekend work frequently may be required as job duties demand.
TRAVEL Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE - Medical Assistant Certificate is preferred, but not required.
