We are a remote-first U.S. company with a culture focused on collaboration, transparency, and meaningful impact.Role SummaryWe are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager with experience in scaling startups to lead highly skilled and driven development teams to deliver on product and platform excellence. In this role, you will drive people leadership, delivery excellence, and technical strategy alongside Tech Leads, Product partners, and cross-functional teams. You will ensure execution of our product roadmaps, and balance that with technical debt cleanup.What You'll DoPeople & Team LeadershipLead, mentor, and develop engineers through regular 1:1s, coaching, performance reviews and performance management.Foster an inclusive, collaborative, and high-performance engineering culture.Hire, onboard, and retain exceptional engineering talent.Process & DeliveryPartner with Product and Engineering leadership to build clear, achievable roadmaps and OKRs, and deliver with predictabilityLead and propose ways to continuously improve our Agile practices and delivery processes across the teamTrack and improve engineering metrics such as code quality, and technical debt.Promote strong SDLC practices, including testing, CI/CD, security scanning, and operational readinessArchitecture & Technical StrategyProvide technical direction and participate in architectural decision-making for product and platform.Collaborate with Tech Leads to design systems that scale with high-volume healthcare data workloads.Champion reliability, observability, security, and cost-efficient architecture across services and productsEnsure alignment with compliance, privacy, and secure development standards.Cross-Functional CollaborationWork closely with Product, Compliance, Operations, and internal engineering teams to understand requirements and define priorities.Communicate effectively with both technical contributors and senior leadership.Help integrate platform roadmaps and technical strategies with company-wide initiatives.What We're Looking ForCore Qualifications5+ years of engineering management experience in cloud-native, data-intensive, or SaaS environments.Experience leading exceptional engineers and teams in early-to-mid-stage startupsHands-on background as a software engineer or technical lead, with the ability to contribute to technical discussions and trade-offs.Strong familiarity with modern cloud infrastructure and infrastructure as code (e.g., AWS, serverless, containers, IaC frameworks).Experience leading teams building platform services, data ingestion systems, or large-scale data processing pipelines.Demonstrated ability to enforce secure SDLC and DevSecOps best practices.Excellent communication skills and cross-functional collaboration abilities.Nice-to-HavesExperience with healthcare data standards (e.g., FHIR, HL7) or compliance frameworks (e.g., HIPAA, HITRUST, SOC2).Experience working on products with compliance requirements, ideally for CMS/HHS or other governmental agenciesFamiliarity with data engineering technologies (e.g., Spark, data lake/lakehouse architectures, workflow orchestration).Experience working in a remote-first environment and distributed teams.Why 1upHealthHelp shape the foundation of a cloud-native healthcare data platform used across the industry.Work with modern tooling, distributed systems, and scalable architectures.Remote-first culture, flexible work arrangements, and strong benefits.Mission-driven work with real impact in healthcare interoperability and data access.Don't meet every requirement?
