Vegetation Management Crew Supervisor

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise a dedicated line clearance crew, planning and coordinating daily work activities.
  • Delegate tasks to crew members and provide guidance on executing line clearance practices, adjusting strategies as necessary based on field conditions.
  • Identify poisonous plants and implement safety measures when necessary.
  • Promote a culture of safety by enforcing safe work practices and conducting safety training in line with company policies and OSHA regulations.
  • Secure permission from property owners for tree trimming or removal and communicate effectively about the work scope and access requirements.
  • Foster good relations with customers and the public through professionalism and effective completion of assigned tasks.
  • Maintain accurate records of crew performance, including time sheets and reports on completed orders.
  • Understand and interpret work orders for tree trimming and chemical application, including drawing and symbols representing power lines.
  • Conduct safety training for crew members, aligning with client and company safety protocols.
  • Manage crew costs effectively, ensuring the efficient use of resources and time.
  • Evaluate weather conditions and make informed decisions regarding work commencement or cessation.
  • Ensure the safety of employees and the public at work sites, coordinating with local authorities when necessary.
  • Oversee truck and tool inspections, ensuring equipment is in good repair and well-maintained.
  • Respond to emergency situations by taking decisive actions to ensure safety and expedite necessary tree work.
  • Execute tree trimming and removal tasks using appropriate techniques and tools.
  • Apply herbicides as needed while adhering to best practices.
  • Assist with equipment operations, including loading and unloading logs, stumps, and debris.
  • Provide training for new crew members on operational procedures.
  • Work in close proximity to energized power lines, adhering to safety protocols.
  • Handle various weather conditions and terrains as necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in tree trimming or clearance crew roles, or successful performance assessments.
  • Strong leadership abilities, capable of managing stressful situations and multitasking.
  • Knowledgeable about tree species, growth habits, and arboricultural techniques relevant to working near power lines.
  • Familiar with the American National Standards for Tree Care Operations (ANSI Z133.1-2000).
  • Basic understanding of electrical circuits and ability to read circuit maps.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for interactions with the public, customers, and team members.
  • Commitment to enforcing safety practices on the job.
  • Ability to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Capability to enter and exit company vehicles multiple times each day.
  • Flexibility to work outdoors in diverse weather conditions.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend job instructions effectively.
  • Skill in representing Wright Tree Service in a professional manner.
  • Physical strength to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds infrequently and 30 pounds frequently.
  • Willingness to work long hours and be available for emergency call-outs, including weekends and holidays.
  • Proficient in operating and maintaining required tools and equipment.
  • Possession of a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) and ability to pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Current medical card for operating company vehicles and adherence to local regulations.
  • Valid certification for herbicide application as dictated by local, state, and federal laws.
  • Current First-Aid and CPR certifications.
