Overview

The Special Order Specialist is an individual contributor supporting the Merchandising department through detailed data entry and coordination of purchase orders-specifically in support of the EDI Project. This role plays a key part in helping Cavender's meet sales, margin, and inventory goals by ensuring accurate PO input, product tracking, and product availability. Reporting to the Sr. Merchandise Planner, this position requires strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, and effective communication. The role supports both internal and external customers and helps ensure the right products are in the right place at the right time.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Support the "Cavender's Culture" and drive our Mission, Vision, and Values
• Deliver on assigned goals within the Merchandising and Planning team
• Perform data entry and maintain purchasing system accuracy
• Input and maintain POs in coordination with the EDI project
• Maintain Excel spreadsheets and track PO-related data logs
• Handle internal customer service calls and respond to store PO requests
• Collaborate frequently with Buyers, Associate Buyers, Planners, and other merchandising partners
• Run and maintain reports related to purchase orders

Qualifications and Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office Suite
• Proven track record of accurate, quality-focused work
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
• Must be based in or willing to relocate to Tyler, TX

Preferred Skills

• Experience in buying, merchandising, or planning support roles
• Strong Excel skills (formulas, sorting, subtotals, freeze panes, etc.)
• Experience with systems like Jesta, Vision Essentus, and similar platforms
• Effective verbal and written communication
• Strong internal and external customer service mindset
• Able to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work in a team environment while embracing company culture, give honest, direct feedback and is a solid verbal and written communicator
