FOOD SERVICE STAFF

REPORTS TO: Residential Manager

DUTIES: Responsible for planning and providing optimal food service to residents based on nutritional and dietary needs and Health Department standards. Ability to work with youth who have suffered trauma, abuse, and neglect.

Ability to serve in ratio alongside Direct Caregivers as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be 23 years of age or older.
  2. A high school diploma or equivalent.
  3. Experience that includes the following:
    1. Planning and Preparing nutritious meals for groups of people.
    2. Maintaining a clean and safe kitchen.
    3. Purchasing, Inventory, Budget planning.
  4. Prior service in group residential operation is preferred but not required.
Compensation Status: Full-Time Hourly

GENERAL RESPONSIBLITIES AND DUTIES

  • Ensure meal plans, menus, and food supplies are maintained.
  • Follow proper food handling protocol including labels, dates, and food storage.
  • Keep kitchen and pantry areas clean, organized, and safe for residents.
  • Meet scheduled meal and snack times.
  • Follow and maintain a monthly budget to shop for and plan out all meals and snacks, utilizing multiple sources.
  • Turn in all receipts for food and supplies promptly per organization procedures.
  • Participate in training as required by DFPS and Minimum Standards and maintain annual training hours.
  • Complete all incident reports, maintenance requests, and other designated electronic documentation in a timely manner.
  • Maintain knowledge of the child's progress in the child's service, supervision and safety plans.
  • Oversee and assist residents in using kitchen equipment to obtain life skills training.
  • Participate in scheduled staff meetings.
  • Monitor activities of the children for compliance with the Minimum Standards for Residential settings, Hope Haven of East Texas guidelines, Residential Contract guidelines and agency policies and procedures.
  • Consult with your supervisor and other care staff on specific needs of a child and report all serious incidents immediately.
  • Report suspected child abuse/neglect to supervisor, licensing, and appropriate law enforcement agency.
  • Performs other assignments and duties as requested.


OTHER ABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

NOTE: These requirements represent minimum levels in order to perform the job on a satisfactory basis. Candidates must have the ability to satisfactorily perform the essential functions of the job.
  1. Ability to be certified in CPR/First Aid and behavior intervention which includes physical restraint of young adults.
  2. Ability to recognize differences in sound, such as voices/noises that are loud and playful instead of angry or combative; and ability to differentiate tones and volume in conversations to determine mood and response to person.
  3. Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  4. Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively, following written and verbal instructions.
  5. Ability to exercise patience, good judgment, and confidentiality; to observe and make accurate assessments of situations with available information.
  6. Ability to work with frequent interruptions and in stressful situations; ability to respond in crisis situations.
  7. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with young adults, other employees, and the public.
  8. Present deep interest in working with young people, as well as a desire to understand how to create positive youth development.
  9. Sufficient good health to properly discharge duties.
  10. Acknowledge the unique Statement of Faith mission of Hope Haven of East Texas and respond appropriately to the cultural differences among the agencies service population.
  11. Possess valid driver's license and have a driver's record which is within the guidelines of the insurance underwriter.
  12. Ability to pass a fingerprint background check.


This position requires a positive completion of a 90-day probationary period. During this time, the agency and employee will decide if the professional relationship is cohesive. At any time during the 90-day probationary period, either the agency or employee may terminate the relationship for any reason.
