Summary/Objective
CSCD employees are expected to use professional courtesy, discretion and sound judgment when engaging in any contact with clients, co-workers, court personnel and other employees and the public.

Cannot be employed as a peace officer or work as a reserve or volunteer peace officer; and Cannot currently be on community supervision, parole, or serving a sentence for a criminal offense.
Hours are 8:00am - 5:00pm Monday - Friday. Salary is $42,000.00 with a competitive benefits package. In addition to the online application, a resume and copy of high school diploma/GED are required prior to interview.
Although the CSCD is affiliated with Smith County, department employees are not county employees. Open until filled.
Duties and Responsibilities

  • Overall responsibility of management of an assigned caseload.
  • Be familiar with current state laws, court directives, and Department policies and procedures and apply them to case management or other situations as they develop.
  • Completes all necessary actions for supervision of new cases including initial interview, explanation of conditions of bond.
  • Conducts regular office visits and jail visits as required by Department policy and as circumstances warrant.
  • Assures that all money owed is collected and properly recorded.
  • Uses all necessary tools of supervision available to the pre-trial officer such as electronic monitoring, urinalysis, office visits, contact with collateral individuals or agencies or any other condition ordered by the Court. (Directly observe and collect urinalysis samples from offenders of the same gender.)
  • Monitors compliance/non-compliance and submits required reports to the District Attorney's Office and to the Courts.
  • Completes all required documentation as directed by Department policy.
  • Attends court as directed for hearings and provides testimony as required.
  • Assures that all information contained in the computer on all cases is current and entered in a timely manner.
  • Prepares reports as required by the Department.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the Supervisor or Department Director.
  • Must be able to complete work accurately and independently.
  • CSCD Employees are further responsible for maintaining confidentiality of information, maintaining professional relations while engaging in job related tasks, cooperating with others to resolve conflict and achieve goals, and maintaining a pleasant attitude.
  • CSCD employees are expected to use professional courtesy, discretion and sound judgment when engaging in any contact with clients, co-workers, court personnel and other employees and the public.
  • Must dress professionally.
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Must be US citizen or have legal immigrant status.
  • Must speak, read and write English fluently
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with all types of people
  • Must have strong organizational and prioritization skills
  • Must pass a background check.
  • Must complete a psychological evaluation and pass a drug test.

Education and Experience
High School Diploma/GED Required

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Daily sitting, standing, walking, stooping, bending, pulling, reaching and lifting of items possibly weighing 40 pounds or more.

SICK LEAVE POOL
Smith County has established a Sick Leave Pool on a voluntary, contributory basis.
MILITARY LEAVE
Granted up to 15 calendar days per year.
CITIZENSHIP LEAVE
Provides that employees receive normal pay during period called for jury duty which includes both the jury selection process and, if selected, the time employee actually spends serving on the jury; serving as a subpoenaed witness; and for the purpose of voting.
FAMILY AND MEDICAL LEAVE
Provides for up to 12 weeks of unpaid, job-protected leave to eligible employees for certain family and medical reasons during a 12-month period, and up to 26 weeks of unpaid leave in a single 12-month period to care for a covered service member with a serious injury or illness.
MEDICAL INSURANCE
The plan is administered by Blue Cross Blue Shield.
RETIREMENT
Employees are eligible to retire: after 20 years of service regardless of age; at age 60 with at least 8 years of service; OR when age plus service equals 75.
DEFERRED COMPENSATION
A payroll deduction savings plan which allows employees to contribute a portion of their salary before Federal taxes - to invest in a tax-favored supplemental retirement program.
