Laborer (Cemeteries Maintenance)

Description:

This position provides labor assistance to various crews in Parks Maintenance, particularly the cemeteries. Assistance is provided by picking up litter, cleaning equipment, using power equipment, push mowers, and using various other hand and power tools to accomplish tasks.

* Blow, edge and mow cemeteries and parks.

* Trim plants, prune bushes and trees.

* Assist with preparing fields as needed.

* Locate and mark graves for burial and monument installation.

* Prepare mausoleum crypts and niches for entombment.

* Installation of name plates at mausoleum.

* Pick up trash in various cemeteries, parks and sports complexes.

* Ensure restrooms are cleaned and maintained.

* Clean work areas after work is accomplished.

* Assist with Parks projects.

* Must be able to mow and trim grass, be able to perform minor maintenance of hand tools and power equipment and possess good communication skills.

* Must be able to stand and walk 8-hours daily, lift, carry, push, and pull up to 80-lbs. Must be able to climb, stoop, bend and crouch up to 8-hours a day.

* Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED preferred. One (1) year of experience in landscape maintenance is preferred. Must have a valid Texas driver's license with a clear driving record.

The City of Tyler will accept two years of relevant experience in place of each year of college required in the job description. Four years of relevant experience will be considered in place of an Associate's Degree, and eight years of relevant experience will be considered in place of a Bachelor's Degree. Any experience required in the Minimum qualifications is in addition to years of experience substituted for a degree.
