With nearly 7,500 employees and over 1,000 licensed in-patient beds, UT Health East Texas provides healthcare services to thousands of patients annually through our hospitals, clinics, Level 1 trauma facility, air emergency fleet and EMS service in a metropolitan service area of a quarter-million people. Our Athens hospital is seeking an experienced **Patient Services Representative****.** We are looking for your experience, knowledge and patient care skills in our **Admissions Department** where you will be responsible for: **What You Will Be Doing:**

* Handles all admitting functions in the UT Health emergency department, including gathering and entering patient demographic, third party payer information and other billing information with a high degree of accuracy to ensure correct reimbursement.

* This position is also the first point of contact with the patients and guests and is critical in creating a positive first impression and high levels of customer satisfaction.

* The team member in this role must engage guests and create positive interactions, while also working with all product lines to continuously improve service and uphold excellent communication and support.

* Accurately registers patients in a timely and professional manner, within 5-7 minutes. This includes obtaining signatures required for general consent for treatment, release of information and assignment of insurance benefits, as well as ensuring that information feeding into subsystems is correct.

* The admitting representative also obtains appropriate signatures for the following legally required documents: Advance Directive, Medicare Rights, HIPPA, Patient Rights.

* Actively displays compassion, understanding and empathy to everyone they encounter in the course of the job. This position is often the first point of contact for UT Health guests and plays a key role in creating a sense of warmth and caring.

* Provides appropriate information to patients, families, and visitors and interdepartmental team members. When questions arise that are out of the scope of the position, the admitting representative makes sure that a clinical (or other appropriate) team member responds. The admitting representative will report up the chain of command whenever team members are not responding to guest needs promptly.

* Claims ownership of admitting process through regular communication with other team members through verbal mean, email, attending training, huddles and staff meetings.

* Contributes to realization of overall department goals and standards by effective interaction with peers.

* Collects co-pays, deductibles, down payments and cash discount payments as required. If patient is uninsured; the registration representative will follow the authorized UT Health collection policy.

* Assists other team members in keeping the lobby area neat and clean, including the coffee bar areas. All areas, especially public areas are to be kept neat and orderly.

* The position requires a high degree of emphasis on personal grooming to ensure that first impressions are positive. Patient Access Reps must wear the approved dress code for the Admitting Department.

* Demonstrates professional growth through periodic participation in continuing education/development programs.

* This position requires shifts with rotating weekends.

* Performs other duties and projects, as assigned.

Education:

* High School Diploma or equivalent

* Additional two years of higher education preferred

Experience:

* Hospital clerical or physician office experience preferred

* Outstanding customer service skills and desire to actively display those skills to create great connections with our customers, both external (guests) and internal (other team members and product lines)

* Intermediate knowledge of personal computer skills and comfort with Microsoft Windows operating system; database and word processing skills required

* Intermediate knowledge of medical terminology

* Strong verbal and written communication skills

* Active listening skills

* Ability to type a minimum of 35 WPM corrected of errors

* Ability to operate office equipment effectively

* Organizational skills required with the ability to multitask and handle heavy volume of patient flow.

* Ability to work well with others

* Strong interpersonal communication and documentation skills
